So what makes a Gutsy Mom? Is it her ability to juggle a thousand things at once? Is it her strength when things go wrong? Or is it her perseverance in the belief that it will all be ok? Perhaps it is her putting herself last on the to do list or giving the right piece of advice when you need it most? I believe it is all these things and then some.
Gutsy Moms are a unique mix of sheer strength and determination coupled with compassion and vulnerability. The world sometimes refers to them as Super Moms. They seem to do it all, these magical creatures who always seem prepared and ready to take on the world all while managing a full time job. Even when things don't go as planned, these moms just smile and relax because they have an inner knowing that it will work its way out, and in most cases it does.
We need to celebrate you moms but we also need to remind you of something really important...you need to take care of yourself first in order to take care of others. Kind of like why you have to put on your oxygen mask first before you can help others in an airplane. You are no good to anyone if you hit the ground first! A happy mom makes a better mom, wife, sister, employee and friend. This is where I think the real gutsy part really comes in, it takes real courage to manage the rest of the world while also taking care of your own needs, especially since society can sometimes skew this as selfish. I strongly disagree. It is selfish NOT to take care of yourself.
So Gutsy Moms I ask you to take 10 minutes out of your day today (and for the rest of the week) and do something special for yourself. Read, write, sing, dance, meditate, explore, indulge. Get Gutsy!
Also, if you know of a Gutsy Mom, remind her of how wonderful she is and then help her get her 10 minutes of gutsy time. It will change her life (and yours!).
